Dengue Cases Increase in Butuan City

The Philippine Department of Health is reporting that 209 dengue cases have been recorded in Butuan City over the course of less than two weeks in this month of January.

DOH-Caraga officials say that 209 dengue patients have been admitted to various hospitals in Butuan, a number much higher compared to the same period of days last year, in 2018.

Medical professionals are calling on residents to immediately visit a health center upon exhibiting symptoms of fever. Hospitals now have a Rapid Dengue Test that can determine if patients indeed have dengue.

Butuan is a highly urbanized city and regional center of the Caraga Region. According to the 2015 census, Butuan has a population of 337,063 people.

Dengue is a painful, debilitating mosquito-borne disease. It is caused by a virus. More than one-third of the world’s population live in areas at risk for infection.
