With a population of over 240,000 residents, Tacloban is the first and only highly urbanized city in Eastern Visayas.
In November 2013, Tacloban was devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), one of the world’s largest and strongest typhoons ever recorded, killing an estimated 7,000 people, mostly from the city.
