This is not a common word in modern Filipino conversation.

In English, a carbuncle is a  localized bacterial infection of the skin that usually has several openings through which pus oozes out of.

It has another, lesser known meaning. In a few translations of the Bible, a carbuncle is any red gemstone, most often a red garnet.

Sa Ibong Adarna, ang karbungko ay ang batong matingkad at kulay pula.
