ALUMANA

This is a fairly obscure Tagalog word that Filipino students only encounter in the Philippine literary work Ibong Adarna.

alumana
noticed, attended to

alumana
care, attention

Unrelated to the above, there is the similar-looking Spanish word alumna (“female student”), which one might also encounter in Philippine texts from the colonial period or being used by Filipinos of an older generation. The male equivalent is alumno.

MGA KAHULUGAN SA TAGALOG

alumána: pinaglalaanan ng panahon o inaasikaso

alumána: iniinda

alumana: asikaso, pansin, atindi, iniintindi, puna, nadarama, ino

anumána

Gutom ay di alumana,
lakas nama’y walang bawa;

mahuli lang ang Adarna.

Apat na buwan nang ganap a

sa tinapay na tumigas.

  1. I think it’s not only found in Ibong Adarna, there’s also the one from “Hindi Biro!… o Ang Anting-Anting”
