TALAANDIG

One of the indigenous groups in the province of Bukidnon.

The Talaandig people have continued to preserve and promote their indigenous customs, beliefs and practices despite the strong influx modernization and change. This group is found in the villages and municipalities surrounding the mountain of Kitanglad, specifically in the towns of Lantapan and Talakag.

Talaandig traditional clothing

The Talaandig believe in the existence of the highest God called Magbabaya and of spirits who guard and protect nature. When the Talaandig establish a farm, they perform the Talabugta and Ibabasuk rituals. After harvest, they perform the Pamamahandi as thanksgiving. For the recognition of the superior leadership, they perform the Panagulambung. When they go hunting, they perform the punaliket and palayag. For higher forms of socio-economic and political activity, the Talaandig perform the Kaliga ceremony.

Marriage is the most significant basis of Talaandig kinship.
