RWM

RWM refers to Resorts World Manila, the site of an “attack” on June 1, 2017 (early morning June 2, local time).

Gunshots were clearly audible and smoke proliferated as guests escaped from the resort, with a few being wounded in the rush to escape from a building.

Resorts World Manila is a resort complex in Newport City, a residential and commercial center by the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. RWM comprises a number of hotels, restaurants and bars. Tourists flock to the complex for its casino, shopping mall, cinema and theater.

Witnesses say it was on the second floor of the casino that a masked attacker sprayed bullets into the ceiling and set fire to the tables. It later turned out to be a lone man who was attempting to steal 130-million worth of chips.

No person was actually shot at. But it was belatedly discovered that more than 30 persons died from smoke inhalation.

Early reports by the notorious fake-news site Rappler that the attack was allegedly part of ISIS terrorism turned out to be false, as readers should have expected considering its source.

There was also speculation that the incident would be considered a possible pretext for the nationwide declaration of martial law, after a more limited form of martial law was imposed by President Rodrigo Duterte on the large southern island of Mindanao the previous week.
