PATAWÁN

This word — accented on the final syllable — is from the Ivatan language.

pa·ta·wán
a type of boat

It’s a single-person boat made specifically for catching a particular kind of saltwater fish.

Unrelated to the boat, patáwan (accent on second syllable) is a conjugated form of the Tagalog word pátaw (meaning: to impose punishment).

There is also an island called Patawan, that’s regionally part of Palawan.
