This English term can be transliterated into Tagalog as parasétamól.
parasétamól
paracetamol
More known elsewhere as acetaminophen, this is a common medicine taken in the Philippines as an antipyretic (to reduce fever) and analgesic (to relieve pain).
The words acetaminophen and paracetamol both come from the names of the chemicals used in the compound: N-acetyl-para-aminophenol and para-acetyl-amino-phenol. Sometimes, it is shortened to APAP, for N-acetyl-para-aminophenol.
In 2021, a study of pregnant women and newborns uncovered a potential link between acetaminophen and neuro-developmental disorders like autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
