The word “dolmus” is not of the Tagalog language. It does not appear in any standard Filipino dictionaries.
Kung ang Pilipinas ay may pumapasadang mga dyipni, ang bansa ng Turkey naman ay mayroong kanilang tinatawag na dolmus.
For public transportation, the Philippines has jeepneys, while Turkey has thousands of mini-buses called dolmus. The way of paying on a Turkish dolmus is similar to how one would pay inside a jeepney — ask your fellow passengers to pass your fare forward from one person to another towards the driver.
A typical dolmus minibus can comfortably seat 14 passengers, although it is a common sight for more people to squeeze in.
