Mumps, also called epidemic parotitism, is a disease caused by a virus. Most commonly, the salivary glands swell to enormous proportions.

Filipinos sometimes joke that they suffer from biki even when they don’t. For example, when you blow up a rubber balloon, the area of your cheeks, lower jaw and upper neck usually hurt from blowing too hard. You can say:

Biniki ako sa kaiihip ng hangin.
I got mumps from blowing air.
