The flowers of this plant bloom at 4:00 pm. The leaves may be crushed and applied as a poultice on boils and abscesses. The leaves may be boiled as a tea to drink to increase urine output and prevent edema. To treat constipation or as a mild purgative, the roots can be boiled and the resulting liquid used as a tonic.
