A turban is a type of headwear based on cloth winding. Featuring many variations, it is worn as customary headwear by men of various countries. Turbant is an obsolete spelling of the word in English.
In one Tagalog translation of the Bible’s Old Testament, a part of Samuel 17:38 is translated as follows:
Kaniyang inilagay ang isang turbanteng tanso sa kaniyang ulo.
He put a bronze helmet on his head.
KAHULUGAN SA TAGALOG
Ang turbante ay isang uri ng putong na isinusuot ng mga kalalakihan sa ulo. Yari ito sa mahabing piraso na telang ipinupulot o iniikid sa paligid ng ulo. Ito ay karaniwang sinusuot ng mga taong Bombay. Tinatawag did itong pugong o turban.
Ang mga taga-Persiya ay karaniwa’y Moro o Muslim na may suot na turbante sa ulo.
