NALILINGAT

This is an obscure word that is now rarely used in conversation. Students are most likely to encounter it in works of Philippine literature.

Hindi ako nalilingat sa pangangamusta sa kanila.
I am never remiss in asking how they are.

Diyos na hindi nalilingat sandali man sa pagkakalinga sa iyo.
God who is never remiss in taking care of you.

The word can mean lacking care or attention to duty… being negligent, neglectful, irresponsible, careless, thoughtless, heedless, lax, slack, slipshod, lackadaisical, or derelict.

The Spanish translation would be descuidado.

Pumimitas ako ng bunga sa puno kung ang may-ari ay nalilingat.
I pick fruits off the tree when the owner is distracted.
