There are many competing schools of thought as to the origins of Milagrosa, also known as Thai Jasmine Rice or fragrant Thai rice.

One theory is that the rice variety came from Thailand and was imported by President Ramon Magsaysay in the 1950s. The naming is supposedly in honor of Milagros Magdangal, a woman from Pampanga province.
A second school claims that Thai jasmine rice actually originated in the Philippines, and not Thailand. The Thais reportedly acquired the Milagrosa seeds from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) managed by the University of the Philippines at Los Baños (UPLB) in Laguna province. The Thais then cultivated that plant variety in their home country and smartly marketed it internationally as Thai jasmine rice. The original strain developed at UPLB is anecdotally reported as having been acquired from Nueva Ecija province.
Milagrosa is Spanish for “miraculous” and it is conceivable that the variety was originally developed in the Philippines, where Spain’s centuries-long colonial hold over the islands gave rise to a vocabulary with many words from the Iberian peninsula.
There also is speculation that the Thais simply used the name “Milagrosa” on rice bags being sold in the international market in order to surf on the popularity of the milagrosa variety local to the Philippines.

Philippines because they are “nice” and “happy” people, (because that is most important, and to have parties and eat, and to have “fun,” because it’s more fun in the Philippines…)…
LOST CREDIT — country of origin
(Hint: country of origin is a big deal. Italy uses DOP designation, takes credit for tomatoes, olives, cheese, Spain and Greece do the same for their olives and mark their products accordingly, France with their wine ~ they never let the world forget their contributions to humanity. Never. They not only take credit, they demand it, and they make sure this credit and demand is always in the face of consumers.
Meanwhile, in the super nice, happy, and poor perenially mentally colonized Philippines: (FUN!!)
