This is a very obscure Filipino word.

Students come across it in the Philippine folktale Matabagka and the Search for the Deity of the Wind, which is a folk story from the Bukidnon area.

Betel (scientific name: Piper betle) is the leaf of a vine belonging to the Piperaceae family. It is chewed together with areca nut for mental stimulation. The habit is common among the mountain tribes of the Philippines and Taiwan.
