LUMINDOL

root word: lindól (meaning: earthquake)

Lumindol kahapon.
There was an earthquake yesterday.

In the English language, the noun “earthquake” does not have a verb form. In contrast, in Tagalog the noun lindól can be conjugated as a verb.

In essence, you can say “It earthquaked” in Tagalog, although that’s grammatically incorrect in English and one would have to say “There was an earthquake” instead.

Yumanig ang lupa.
The earth shook.

Huwag sanang lumindol habang nandoon ako.
I hope there’s no earthquake while I’m there.

KAHULUGAN SA TAGALOG

lumindol: yumanig o gumalaw ang bahagi ng rabaw ng daigdig, dulot ng pagbabago sa ilalim ng lupa o pagsabog ng bulkan
