Lordvin Acopio

Lordvin Acopio was one of the hostages taken by Islamic militants in Marawi City.

He is a teacher at Dansalan College who was held captive by the Maute for 117 days. His stories of life during captivity provided much insight to conditions behind the battle’s front lines, including the fact that young children were among the fighters.

Among the anecdotes he shared was that his hostage-takers including the youngsters enjoyed watching grisly IS (Islamic State) beheading videos in their spare time.

He also confirmed that there were at least 11 foreigners fighting alongside the Filipino terrorists — seven Indonesians, three Malaysians, and an Arab.

Acopio was rescued by the Philippine military.
