Linambay: theatrical show that’s a combination of stories of wars and legends with elaborate supernatural elements; prominent in Carcar, Cebu
Often written by anonymous folk poets, the linambay (called komedya or Moro-Moro in other regions) is a full-length play in verse dealing with Moors and Christians in love and at war. Derived from Spanish metrical romances, with its adventures set in an imagined Europe rather than among Philippine Muslims and Christians, this drama form entertained audiences throughout most of the Philippiens from at least the eighteenth century, possibly earlier.
