 Don’t Allow Nervousness to Ruin Your Interview

Getting an interview call always bring some excitement, and some nervousness, too. Many deserving people failed to crack the interview because they freeze in from of the interviewer.  The anxiety on your face can make a negative impression on the HR manager, creating an impression of an unconfident and incapable person. All your hard work and preparation will be damaged if you are not able to behave at the interview properly.  At first, you have to understand that the interviewer’s job is to appoint the best candidate; for that, he will always arrange some trouble for you. All you have to do is face all the troubles confidently. Or maybe you were not nervous before the interview, but during the interview you become anxious, having sweats and suddenly the interview becomes a mess. Many of us faced situation like this, both freshers and experienced employees. Yes, we know it is pretty tough, but yes, we have prepared some tips for you to cope with such troubling, nervous situations.

How NOT to Mess Up the Interview

Follow some simple basic tips to avoid this kind of mess and impress the interviewer:

Preparation

There is no better substitute of good preparation. Prepare yourself with the company’s reputation, history and its current business-economic situation. Read your own CV carefully, think through some common possible questions from it, prepare some intelligent answers. Also study some common questions asked in interviews.  A good sleep can really help you to stay fresh. Dress should be sober, formal, but attractive. Remember you are going for an interview, not for a portfolio shoot, so you have to dress suitably. Never use a strong perfume; don’t overdo your hair; no heavy makeup; wear your precious smile and you are ready to face the HR manager.

Arrive early

Always arrive at least 15 minutes before the interview. Arriving late can shake your confidence and your first impression as well. Calm yourself, relax your mind, prepare yourself one more time in the last few minutes and here you go.  

Meditation

If you have time before the responsible job interview, start mediation. It will give you inner peace of mind, and you will feel relaxed. This simple exercise does not require a yoga mat or sports shoes. A deep breath in and breath out, that’s it. You will feel the changes within you.

Be particular

Always be particular on what the interviewer has asked and give perfect answers. Tell them about your experiences, qualification, and other things they ask about in enough detail. The employer does not want to know about your college sports or how much you have travelled at the previous position. Try to avoid personal questions; the HR manager should feel that you know personal boundaries, and it will arouse respect to you.

Praise the Current Employer

“How would you describe your current employer?” The interviewer will be interested to know what you say about your current employer. Avoid any negative comments, praise your current boss and colleagues. Describe the valuable experience that you have gained from working with them. Appreciate them; this will show you as a dependable and responsible employee.

Act Confidently

You have to act confidently throughout the interview and gain the employer’s confidence in you. Make the employer think that you are the right candidate for this job. Never hesitate to ask questions – this will show you as an attentive, inquisitive person, but do that politely, without excessive intrusiveness. You will have a chance to get much more information once you are hire.

Express Your Interest about the Company

When the employer tells you about the company, listen carefully. If you have questions, ask them.  Show your interest to the company’s policy, values. In such a way, you will create an impression of an interested candidate, with commitment and enthusiasm about a new job.

The last but not the least: a simple thank-you mail can also make your impression good. This letter will help you remind the employer about your meeting, and to make a brief follow-up about what you liked about it.
