Fishermen in Bulacan keep the fish they have hooked in this basket.
Made of bamboo, the lower part is closely plaited but the upper part is more open, so the fisherman can check how many fish he has caught, by simply peeking through.
The fish is slipped in through the lid and can’t get out again because of the pointy spikes. When the fish is ready to be cleaned and cooked, the lid is simply lifted out.
To keep the fish alive and fresh, fishermen lower this basket from the boat into the water while they continue fishing or on their way home. Since the basket is made of bamboo, it isn’t much harmed by water. A buslo can be used by a fisherman for many years.
