Alice Bulos

“Godmother of Filipino American politics.”

Alice Peña BulosAlice Peña Bulos was a Filipino American professor, civil rights leader, and leader of the Asian American movement. She was a member of the Democratic Party and represented California in five Democratic National Conventions.

Bulos was born in Nueva Ecija in the Philippines on March 31, 1930. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and worked as a professor of sociology. She moved to California in 1972.

In July 2022, the Daly City Council unveiled a sign designating a portion of California State Route 35 as Alice Peña Bulos Memorial Highway.
