Talk about the Weather

The Tagalog word for ‘weather’ is panahon.

Maganda ang panahon.
The weather’s nice.

Masama ang panahon.
The weather’s bad.

Malakas ang hangin.
The wind is strong.

Matindi ang sikat ng araw.
The sun’s rays are intense.

Mainit ang araw.
The sun is hot.
The day is hot.

The Tagalog word panahon can also mean ‘time’.

Filipinos use the Taglish phrase “Weather-weather lang” to describe the changes one’s life may take. In particular, it’s been associated with politicians, especially those who are presidents, who are one day on top of the world, then the next day in jail for criminal charges that may be justified or merely trumped up.
