A native rice delicacy (kakanin) that’s a meryenda (snack) in parts of Laguna and Quezon provinces.
The obscure Tagalog word unday literally means “round” (bilog).

The galapong (sticky-rice that has been ground) is shaped into balls and submerged in a boiling concoction of gata (coconut milk) and panutsa (brown sugar). In a few versions, actual strings of coconut are included. The sauciness of the sugar concoction varies according to preparation.
A more widely known relative of this rice delicacy is . While unday-unday has a brown-sugar syrup, palitaw is rolled in a fairly dry mixture of grated coconut and white sugar.
