TUTA

tu·tà

tutà
a puppy, a young dog

tutang maamo
a tame puppy

tutà
slang for a crony, a lapdog,
someone who follows your wishes blindly

tutà
servile follower, flunky, lackey

tutà ng pulitiko
the politician’s toady

The word tutà does not sound cute in Tagalog the way the word ‘puppy’ does in English. It is partly because of the slang connotation.  It’s very insulting to be called the tuta of someone you’re loyal to. They’re saying you don’t have a mind of your own.
