Unang Linggo ng Disyembre (First Week of December) https://www.tagaloglang.com/disyembre
The Philippines being a tropical country, there are many common winter words in English that don’t have a Tagalog equivalent.
For instance, there isn’t even a word for ‘winter.’ The closest thing is taglamig, which refers to the period of the year when it’s colder than usual. December happens to be the coldest month in the Philippines − about 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 21 degrees Celsius at night. That’s considered maginaw (chilly) by Filipinos.
How about snow? There’s no native word for it. When the Spaniards ruled the Philippines, nieve (Tagalog pronunciation: niyebe) was used. Now, Filipinos simply use the English. Uy, may snow! (Hey, there’s snow.) It can be conjugated as a verb according to the rules of Tagalog grammar. Nag-i-is-snow. (It’s snowing.)
Pasensya na ho kayo kung maikli lang ito. (Please excuse that this is just a short one.) We hope to send you a more substantial newsletter in the future.
