Law on the Philippine National Anthem

In May 2009, the Philippines was abuzz about Martin Nievera’s rendition of the Filipino national anthem before the Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton boxing match in the United States.  A few commentators opined that his take on the song was a violation of Philippine law, specifically Section 37 of the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines (R.A. 8491) .

Sarangani Bay

Sarangani Bay is located on the southern tip of Mindanao in the Philippines.

General Santos City, one of the country’s most important ports, and also the hometown of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, is located at the head of the bay.

The province of Sarangani, created in 1992, is named after the bay. A festival known to the locals as Sarbay Fest is held in the area every year in the third week of May. It is possibly the most popular beach event in the southern region of the Philippines.
