Sarangani Bay

Sarangani Bay is located on the southern tip of Mindanao in the Philippines.

General Santos City, one of the country’s most important ports, and also the hometown of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, is located at the head of the bay.

The province of Sarangani, created in 1992, is named after the bay. A festival known to the locals as Sarbay Fest is held in the area every year in the third week of May. It is possibly the most popular beach event in the southern region of the Philippines.

Sarangani is the southernmost province in mainland Mindanao. It is cut midway by General Santos City, giving its two sections hammock-like shapes that hug the mountains and Sarangani Bay.

In 2015, triathlete-lawyer Ingemar Macarine became the first person to swim across the bay. The 38-year-old dubbed “Pinoy Aquaman” swam through more than twelve kilometers of tough waters in five hours and 55 minutes, from the municipality Maasim to the town of Glan in the province of Sarangani. During the feat, he was stung by jellyfish and passed by sharks and even a whale!
