It is the Kapampangan rendering of “San Fernando,” which is the name of the provincial capital of Pampanga.
The city of San Fernando is known as the Christmas Capital of the Philipines because it is identified with the making of giant parol (Christmas lanterns). There is a Giant Lantern Festival in the city in the third week of December.
Sampernandu has a population of about 285,000 residents.
Examples of the local cuisine: adobong kamaru (mole crickets) and betuteng tugak (stuffed frog).
