Buko Pandan Gulaman (Zang)

Zang brand of Cebu…

Manufactured by the Shireli company in the Philippines.

What is Gulaman?

It’s plant-based “jelly.”

Whereas the gelatin in the west is made from animal products, the Philippine gulaman is made from algae-derived agar.

Buko Pandan is a popular flavor combination in the Philippines. Buko is young coconut, while pandan is the fragrant leaves of the screwpine plant.

Zang’s single sachet of gulaman powder mix is about an ounce in weight, yet can be used to make eight cups of jelly. That’s a lot!

The Constitution of the Philippines states that the nation has two official languages -- these are called English and Filipino. Tagalog is the basis of the Filipino language.
