In speech-act theory, a perlocutionary act is an action or state of mind brought about by, or as a consequence of, saying something.

The perlocutionary act is the consequent effect on the hearer which the speaker intends should follow from his utterance.

Summary of the three interrelated speech-acts originally presented by John L. Austin in How to Do Things With Words (1962):

* A speaker utters sentences with a particular meaning (locutionary act), and with a particular force (illocutionary act), in order to achieve a certain effect on the hearer (perlocutionary act).

Según la teoría de los actos de habla, de John L. Austin, acto que se realiza por medio de decir algo: hacer que alguien crea que algo es de determinada manera, persuadir a alguien a hacer algo, influir sobre sus sentimientos. El efecto perlocucionario de un enunciado es su acción sobre las creencias, actitudes o conducta del destinatario. Así, por ejemplo, mediante una argumentación se puede persuadir, al aconsejar se puede asustar, al hacer una petición se puede lograr que alguien haga algo, inspirar, convencer, etc.

Bilang halimbawa, tingnan ang pangungusap na ito:

“Siyanga pala, meron akong bagong gitara. Baka gusto mong hiramin.”

Ang ilokusyonaryo dito ay ang pag-alok: “Gusto mo bang hiramin?”

Ang perlokusyonaryong epekto ay maaaring:

1. Pahangain ang kausap. (Uy, may bagong siyang gitara.)

2. Magpakita ng pakikipagkaibigan. (Uy, inalok niya ko. Inisip niya baka gusto kong subukan ang bagong gitara. Ang bait naman niya.)

3. Himukin ang kausap na mag-gitara.
