OGGAYAM

In the Kalinga and Ilocano cultures, oggayam is a song to celebrate certain occasions. It also serves to give advice to to its listeners.

This is a declaratory song in Kalinga and Ilocano culture.

Oggayam is performed by one person during public gatherings and other occasions. The theme depends on the event.

Songs of broad social utility include the Itneg oggayam (ballad), the saliddummay (which is sung even by school groups today), and the dalleng of the Tingguians.

Oggayam and Salidummay are five-note greeting chants, whose lyrics are improvised to suit the occasion.

Ang oggayam ay isang tipo ng katutubong awit (kung matatawag na awit ang chant).
