The Constitution of the Philippines states that the nation has two official languages — these are called English and Filipino.

There are some 120 to 187 languages and dialects in the Philippines, depending on the method of classification. Among the most widely spoken languages are Bicolano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon, Kapampangan, Pangasinense, Sebwano, Tagalog and Waray, each having more than a million speakers in the country.
