National Anthem of the Philippines (English)

Land of the Morning is the English translation commissioned by the American colonial government in the 1920s. The song was translated from the Spanish by Camilo Osias and A.L. Lane.

The English version starts in the video at the 1:15 mark.

Land of the morning
Child of the sun returning
With fervor burning
Thee do our souls adore.

Land dear and holy,
Cradle of noble heroes,
Ne’er shall invaders
Trample thy sacred shores.

Ever within thy skies and through thy clouds
And o’er thy hills and seas;
Do we behold thy radiance, feel the throb
Of glorious liberty.

Thy banner dear to all hearts
Its sun and stars alight,
Oh, never shall its shining fields
Be dimmed by tyrants might.

Beautiful land of love, oh land of light,
In thine embrace ’tis rapture to lie;
But it is glory ever when thou art wronged
For us thy sons to suffer and die.

  1. I’m sure you can tell that this is actually not the accurate translation of the national anthem. In the first few lines itself,
    “Bayang magiliw, Perlas ng silanganan”,

    its literal translation is,
    “Beloved land/country, Pearl of the East”

    this English version was made so that it would still sound nice when sang.

    1. I was born in 1954 and during my elementary grades we sang this english version of the Philippine National Anthem, except for the typo error where it said, “The sun and stars alright” instead of “The Sun and stars alight”. Otherwise, the entire lyrics are correct.

      1. Hi guys, our national anthem is very beautiful and so patriotic, but have you tried to connect it to the anthem of israel? Are the israelites are the child of the son returning in the first stanza of our anthem? Philippines is the pearl of the east/orient. And israel still yearning to the east . If it so, we are remnant Hebrews?

        1. Yes, indeed. We are Ophir, Tarshish, Havilah. The orient, beyond the Arabian sea, the isles, multitude of islands of the south, where the Garden of Eden was, and the gold of Sheba, the Queen of the South…

  2. Yeyyy!!! THANKS dito sawakas tapos ko narin assignment ko sa English (Lupang Hinirang) english translation
