root word: binî
mabinì
modest
mabining asal
modest behavior
isang mabining babae
a modest woman
Old dictionaries note that this word used to have a distinctive stress on the last syllable. Perhaps due to the influence of English however, the word mabini is now more often pronounced the way an American would. This is especially in the case of saying “Mabini Street” and even the surname of the Philippine patriot Apolinario Mabini, after whom the street in Malate was likely named.
