Lydia Paredes is the unfortunate wife of Jim Paredes, the most famous masturbator in Philippine history.
They had already been married at least 41 years when her husband’s video performance was leaked on social media, subjecting him to widespread ridicule in early 2019.
Jim Paredes and Lydia Mabanta met in 1976. His cousin Robbie was dating her sister Nandy at the time. When they married, he was 25 years old, while she was 20. Their wedding was held at the Church of Mary the Queen. Father Kull, a Jesuit teacher, officiated at the wedding.
Their first child was Erica. Then they had two more children, Angela (“Ala”) and Mio. All the Paredes children live overseas and have acquired non-Philippine citizenships in other countries.
Lydia Paredes was prominently in the news in October 2016 due to her politicizing the death of musician Noli Asensio. A Facebook post entitled “He wasn’t poor” and carrying the byline “Lydia M. Paredes” had gone viral with claims that Asensio was “abducted” and “drugged” before his death, and that he was a “victim of Duterte’s drug war.” Asensio’s ex-wife Iwi Laurel and daughter Nicole denied the contents of the post.
The Paredes family are known to be rabid supporters of Manuel Roxas II, the standard-bearer of the Liberal Party in the May 2016 elections, who lost to President Rodrigo Duterte.
Jim Paredes is the cousin of Retired RTC Judge Meinrado Paredes. He currently resides in Australia with his whole family. He is the grandson of Quintin Paredes, a senator in the 1930s with a street in Binondo, Manila named after him.
