Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are the names of the three major island groups of the Philippines.
LuzViMinda has also been used as a feminine given name. The first non-lawyer woman commissioner of the Philippine Commission on Elections was Luzviminda Gaba Tancangco.
Separate from the name of the island, Luz by itself has long been used as name for girls. It is the Spanish word for “light.”
