The liwaló (scientific name: Anabas testudineus) is a freshwater fish. It inhabits lakes, slow-flowing streams, ponds and ditches near sea level throughout the Philippines.

Also known as: alalo, alito, gourami, gutan, martiniko, piit, puyo, puyo-puyo, tinikan
It is known as atas in Bicol, as puyo in the Visayas, and as araro in the Ilocos regions.
This fish is a serious menace in milkfish ponds.
