Jed Patrick Mabilog

Name in the news after President Rodrigo Duterte reassigned his favorite police officer Jovie Espenido to Iloilo in late August 2017.

Jed Patrick E. Mabilog is the mayor of Iloilo City, which is located in the Visayas region of the Philippines. He has been accused by President Duterte of having ties to the illegal drug trade.

Mayor Mabilog became the object of several news stories in late August 2017 after Officer Espenido was reassigned to his city. Espenido is known for being assigned to cities where subsequently his police raids end up with the death of the sitting mayors with drug affiliations.

A consistent honor student, Mabilog graduated elementary school from Assumption-Iloilo and high school from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas. He earned a degree in Biological Science at West Visayas State University, then obtained a Master’s degree in Public Management at Ateneo de Manila University. He finished his Doctorate in Human Resources Management at the University of Visayas.

Mabilog also completed a Fellowship Program in Public Administration at the JFK School of Government, Harvard University. He was elected city councilor in 2004 and soon became Vice Mayor. He took over mayoral duties in 2010. He is currently on his second term, after having been re-elected in 2013.
