Widowed at 41 years of age, Jimenez raised 10 children. Her first husband was Jess Paredes Jr., a lawyer and broadcaster who died in an airplane crash with President Ramon Magsaysay in 1957.

She was part of the Light-A-Fire Movement, with her second husband Othoniel Jimenez, fighting against President Ferdinand Marcos. That “movement” has been referred to as a terrorist organization responsible for the deaths of innocent lives in the Philippines.

It has particularly been asserted that the famously disabled singer Nonoy Zuñiga lost his leg from one of the bombings orchestrated by the Light-A-Fire Movement.

The members of that group were arrested in 1979, including Ester and her husband. Though sentenced for crimes, the punishments were overlooked in the aftermath of the 1986 revolution.

Ester Jimenez died in 1997 at the age of 81, after a long illness.
