DAGYAW

Dagyaw = “community support work”

One of the ways through which the concept of “togetherness” is best exemplified is in group work called dagyaw.

Dagyaw is a type of cooperative labor pattern in the barrio involving the participation of non-family members of the community.

The more common forms of exchange labor in the lowlands are the dagyaw of the Visayans and the palusong of the Tagalogs. In dagyaw the initiator of cooperative labor is not morally required to return the services of other people, although he may do so if he likes.

Dagyaw is a freely offered, reciprocal service rendered to any member of the municipality in the spirit of neighborliness.
