According to Google’s Zeitgeist 2008, Cebu was the second most searched for travel destination by Filipinos in the Philippines.

The province of Cebu is in the center of the Philppines. It is one of the largest islands in the Visayas region. Its capital Cebu City is the oldest city in the Philippines and the nation’s second-most important metropolitan area after Manila. Although the province itself is home to 2.5 million Filipinos, there are about 20 million speakers of the Cebuano language throughout the country.

Tourist visit Cebu for the beaches, golf courses, Mactan Island Aquarium, Jumalon Butterfly Sanctuary, Magellan’s Cross, Kawasan Falls, Banyan Tree Spa, Fort San Pedro, Santo Nino Basilica, Casino Filipino, Casa Gorordo Museum.  World-famous Plantation Bay resort is on Mactan Island.

Cebu has a lot of festivals. The two largest: Sinulog festival every third Sunday in January, Mantawi festival on the 7th of May

Trivia: The explorer Ferdinand Magellan visited Cebu and in fact was killed by Lapu-Lapu in the nearby island of Mactan in 1521.
