There is a popular story about Juan Batugan (“Lazy John”), which tells about what he did to pick a guava. Instead of reaching for it on the branch, he lay under the tree and waited for the fruit to fall. Why bother climbing? Gravity will take its course.
The more common Tagalog word for ‘lazy’ is tamad.
