Mga Ayungin

Ayungin is a freshwater fish known in English as the silver perch.

This fish is small — never larger than 16 centimeters.

It can be used as a principal ingredient in the sour dish sinigang or dried as daing.

One of the favorite dishes of Philippine national hero Jose Rizal was sinigang na ayungin.


Ayungin Shoal is part of the ocean area in which China and the Philippines have competing claims. It is home to the BRP Sierra Madre.
