AGIMATAN

This is a seldomly used Tagalog word for “economics.”

Filipinos ordinarily use the English word as is, or transliterated as ikonomiks, or the Spanish-derived word ekonómiká.

Agimatan was one of the words created by the National Science Development Board in order for there to be “native” Tagalog equivalents for foreign concepts.

Other examples of words coined by the NSDB: sipnayan (mathematics), agsikapan (engineering), hapnayan (biology), kapnayan (chemistry), sugnayan (physics), hignanging mangsaghimo (wedding shop), punlay (sperm), tunod (penis), kaluban (vagina)

Most of these NSDB-created words are not commonly used.
